Preparations for Bay Run 2010

Hello to all athletes, professional and amateur, who are preparing for this year’s Bay Run.  As you know preparation is key to the successful outcome of any sporting activity and taking care of your body in the run-up to any event is a “must”.

As a Physical Therapist specialising in Soft Tissue Work and Postural Realignment working out of Bantry for almost 10 years, I’ve come across my fair share of injuries associated with incorrect preparation or as an outcome of being involved in sport. I work with a range of people to help them back to full health and fitness.

I’ve worked with the Bay Run Team since it began and have been asked to co-ordinate the Physical Therapy team again in 2010  for the May Bank Holiday weekend. It is most enjoyable and the feedback on our services which we’ve received has been very positive and encouraging indeed. Last year, over 300 athletes took advantage of Munster Treatment Rooms’ services at the end of the race. The team usually consists of massage and physical therapists, osteopaths, physiotherapists and chiropractors all of whom have considerable experience and work really well together as a team.

While you are all training and preparing for this year’s event (or any other) please ensure that you have regular massage and proper stretching techniques, as incorrect stretching can do a lot of damage to muscles and tendons and the damage can be considerable and could spoil your fun on the day.

Why not have a look at our stretching exercises or our albums of photographs from Bay Run 2009 and the Dingle Marathon 2009. If you wish, please call me for appointments in advance of any event in which you’re involved.

We wish you luck for the Bay Run 2010 and hope to be of assistance to you on the day.
