Sports in Ireland have become so professional you wouldn’t believe. Even in Ireland, where most sports are traditionally amateur, the stakes and expectations have risen to a completely new level.
And with these new expectations, and new standards comes a greatly increased demand on your body. To run faster, to be stronger, to become even better co-ordinated, to recover faster, to train more often, and at a higher intensity.
And when you’re working 10 hours a day, including a two hour commute something has to give. Sometimes you’re able to work around your sport, but frequently the things that gives is your body. It calls a time out, when your hamstring pops, or your shoulder goes out, or something even more serious. And then you have to reassess.
